Douglas Dubler is a fashion, beauty and
fine art photographer who seamlessly joins craft and creativity to
produce some of the most memorable images in editorial, advertising
and fine art photography.
His early training in Fine and Liberal Arts at Boston University
enriched him with an articulate sense of form, color, and
composition.
His early experience as a plastic sculptor and silk screen artist
instilled in him a great respect for the craft and workmanship
necessary to produce fine art and produced the dedication to detail
that appears in his work as a photographer.
Dubler's early mentors, the famed Japanese sculptor Isamu Noguchi
and the renowned American photographer Ansel Adams, reflected his
appreciation for the duality of the creative process. From his work
with Noguchi, Dubler received the Silver Seagull Award from Oriental
Photo in Japan.
Dubler=s professional photographic career began in the late 60's in
California and the Virgin Islands where he photographed underwater
life. Clients included the United States Navy, General Electric, and
various institutes involved in marine biology research.
Seeking dry ground, Dubler made the transition to studio photography
in the early 70's. He established studios in St. Thomas/U.S. Virgin
Islands, San Juan/Puerto Rico and Caracas/Venezuela where he worked
for Kodak, Coca-Cola, Rolex, Proctor & Gamble, BMW, Eastern
Airlines, Waterford, Johnson & Johnson, and Hasselblad.
In 1976 his commercial success drew him to Los Angeles where he
began to specialize in fashion and beauty photography. Working
primarily with major motion picture studios, Dubler photographed
celebrities and subsequently obtained cosmetic contracts with Max
Factor and Redken Laboratories.
Dubler's comprehensive understanding of his client's business
evolved the photographer relationship into an informal, symbiotic
consulting arrangement with Redken's advertising management. Dubler
served as a principal contributor in the company's creative
reorganization which catapulted Redken toward commercial success.
Access to European editorial markets and major cosmetic accounts
lured Dubler to New York in 1982. His editorial assignments brought
him primarily to Italy where he spent extensive amounts of time
working for Amica, Lei, and Italian Vogue. His celebrity editorial
clients include Jacqueline Bisset, Jane Fonda, Shirley MacLaine,
Dolly Parton, Brooke Shields, Andie MacDowell and Sharon Stone.
Dubler=s innovative techniques and his consistent ability to
reproduce accurate, pleasing skin tones with minimal retouching has
produced a client list of major cosmetic companies including Coty,
Max Factor, Revlon, Redken, Avon, Charles of the Ritz, Sally Hansen,
and Clairol. His commercial successes have been recognized by the
industry with awards from the Starch Report, Communication Arts, Art
Directors Club and Clio.
In 1994, Dubler completed a six country tour in the Far East for
Fuji Photo Film where he lectured to professional photographers on
commerical fashion photography. His lecturing continues at the
International Center of Photography in New York City where he is on
staff, as well as Rochester Institute of Technology and other
educational venues in the United States . Works in progress include
a book of natural light, exotic photographs from Bali, a
retrospective of twenty years in the fashion and beauty business.
Dubler also has active consulting relationships with Epson,
Hasselblad, Mamiya, Minolta, Sekonic, Nikon, Olympus, Leaf America,
Fuji, Kodak, Balcar, Dyna-lite, Comet and Sinar-Bron. Recent

Most recently, Douglas has completed several imaging projects for
clients for their websites. His in depth understanding of light,
exposure and film have provided him with the tools to develop a
ultra-high quality approach to photography for the Internet. To
facilitate this he has entered into a consulting relationship with
Leaf America(Mamiya) who is providing him with the technical support
to develope creative and innovative approaches to digital imaging
assignments. LVMH (Moet,Hennessy,Louis Vuitton) has hired Douglas to
produce images for their luxury website, e-luxury.com. Some of the
designers involved in the site are Michael Kors, Ferragamo, Louis
Vuitton, Bulgari, Fendi, and LeClerc Cosmetics. The project is an
ongoing one which will provide Douglas with an opportunity to
showcase his talents over a wide range of creative challenges. The
site launched in June 2000.
In 2001, Dubler was invited to join the Epson Pro Users Group by
Epson America. This is a small group of photographers at the top of
their respective fields who are involved in digital print making and
represent to Epson the cutting edge of technology and art. Olympus
